Where Brevé Coffee is Grown

Brevé Coffee travels the world to source the finest coffees between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.  It is here, in the middle of the globe, that the necessary warm and humid conditions exist for this precious plant.

Brevé Coffee comes from mountainous regions where large and heavy equipment is simply not feasible.  It is here, in the untouched high altitudes of porous, volcanic soils, where the purest, most treasured coffees are found.

There are two main types of coffee trees: Arabica and Robusta.  Brevé Coffee only uses Arabica coffee trees, which are more delicate and require stricter environmental conditions regarding elevation and soil content.

Brevé Coffee uses 100% estate grown Arabica coffees.  They are the top 1% handpicked coffees in the world. The coffees are washed, hand sorted, and screened through a 1/16th inch screen to ensure that all beans are the finest in size, shape, color, density, and uniformity.

"Their" Coffee
Our Coffee
  • different water contents

  • irregular sizes

  • different colors

  • black beans

  • chipped beans

  • pieces

  • uniform water contents

  • same sizes (screened 16/64th inch)

  • same color

  • no defective beans

  • no chipped beans

  • only whole beans

When roasting "Their" beans, the smaller beans are burnt, while the larger beans are not fully roasted.  This causes the "bitterness" that most people associate with coffee.

When roasting Our beans, every bean is roasted evenly and to its fullest potential.  This ensures a smooth, robust, and full-bodied batch of coffee.

Roasting Process

Brevé Coffee uses many different single origin coffees, which are grown by specific small farmers at varying degrees.  Different regions produce different coffee tasting outcomes.  This is why at Brevé Coffee we do not limit ourselves to one specific region like other coffee roasters.

Because each coffee growing region produces beans with different densities and water contents, Brevé Coffee individually roasts each batch of coffee with keen senses of sight, smell, and sound.  The rate of elevation of heat temperatures and a multitude of other variables significantly influence the flavour and aroma of the final product.

Through the decades, our Master Roaster has discovered perfect blends that balance acidity, nuttiness, fruitiness, and chocolately-ness. The Master Roaster has developed these specific roasting profiles that have become to backbone of our unique roasting process.

Brevé Coffee uses two 12 kilo Probat German coffee roasters that are open flame and air cooled.  Still in use is our original 30-year-old roaster.  There is no automation or computer controls on our roasters.  All of our coffees are roasted by hand, using artisanal methods to create a consistent flavour, regardless of the variables that each new crop of coffee offers us.  The reproduction of our roasting profiles assure the most accurate roast, small batch after small batch in our micro roasters. Our difference is using artisanal methods, developed one roast at a time, that has gained us decades of experience in the delicate craft of roasting coffee.
